How is a solar system installed on a flat roof?

Flat roofs - which are commonplace on residential and commercial buildings, provide a great starting point for highly effective solar installations. On a flat roof, the solar panels are typically installed on free-standing frames that can optimize array performance by providing the ideal tilt and directional orientation.

special mounting frames are used to install solar systems on flat roofs

The frames and clamps used are designed to match the roof profile and provide a water-tight seal. Usually the panels are tilted between 20 and 25 degrees. Panels tilted at less than 5 degrees or mounted flat on the roof directly tend to collect more dust over time, as the rain does not flush the dust as easily of the lowly tilted solar panels than more steeply tilted panels. In this case more frequent maintenance and panel cleaning can still achieve a satisfactory solar system performance.
